Eric's Room
Eric was diagnosed at age 4 with leukemia. After standard treatment was not successful, Eric received a lifesaving bone marrow transplant from his twin brother Brian at the age of five. Eric played a pivotal role in the formation of A Room to Heal. It was after hearing his story that Laurie Abess approached Eric’s mom, Linda about creating an organization to help children just like Eric.
Since its formation in 2006, A Room to Heal has completed 75 rooms for children in need. Eric was the 75th recipient - diagnosed with thyroid cancer as a direct result of the radiation he received from Leukemia treatment in his childhood. Eric underwent surgery to remove the thyroid cancer and returned home to a healing, Philadelphia Union Soccer themed bedroom.
A special thanks to Rawley Filbin and Filbin Painting for donating time and paint, Nancy Valenta for sewing a headboard for Eric's bed, and Ron Abess and Anthony Giammarino for installing the technology. Thanks to Laurie Abess and Yvonne Visram for project leading and Vista Hospitality (Holiday Inn Binghamton) for sponsoring Eric's room!
