Adam's Room

September 12, 2011-March 24, 2019
Adam gained his wings on March 24, 2019. He will always be remembered for his smiles and his giggles.

Adam was an adorable boy who was full of smiles! Adam had spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, he was unable to assist in moving himself from place to place or in and out of equipment. He also had epileptic seizure disorder and cortical blindness. Despite all of these challenges, Adam thrived under the care of his loving parents who began fostering him when he was 3 years old and adopted him in August of 2017.
Adam loved music! His mom said it is how you wake his brain up. “You are my Sunshine” is a favorite and was an inspiration for the design of his room. Though he had limited vision, Adam could see yellow and red and high contrast. We decided to paint his room a beautiful sunshine yellow. The red and white striped curtains were chosen because of the colors and contrast. Adam also loved dogs, so we made sure to include lots of dog themed items, all high in contrast and containing red, so he could see them.
An easy-to-clean linoleum floor was installed in the room. A fan was added to help cool his room in the summer and more outlets were installed to make it easier to plug in all of the equipment he uses. Adam’s doorway was widened to make it easier for his parents to wheel him in and out of his room.
A special thanks goes out to Thunder Built Construction for installing Adam’s floor, Filbin Painting for painting his room and closet, and Habitat for Humanity for widening Adam’s doorway and installing a new door.
