Giavanna's Room
Giavanna is a 7 year old girl with a bright and bubbly personality. She loves doing word finds, creating newsletters, and pretending she’s a teacher. She swims, dances, and plays basketball. Too much noise bothers her and she would like her room to be a place of ‘peace and quiet’. Giavanna was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue. Giavanna has an inoperable tumor on her optic nerve that has caused some vision loss. The tumor is also pressing on her hypothalamus, which has affected her ability to sleep.
The goal for Giavanna’s room makeover is to provide her with a calm and soothing environment, encouraging her to sleep while providing a space for quiet activities. Her tastes are quite eclectic! When our Room Makeover team met with her, she told us her favorite colors were rainbow, red, and aquamarine; she loves power rangers, sparkles, and would love a castle on the wall; and did we say she loves power rangers!!? Our team, led by Nicole DoBell and Klari Prikazsky, worked hard to create a space incorporating these ideas into a comfortable place for Giavanna to relax and enjoy her quiet time.
Many businesses/organizations made this room possible, we’d like to give special thanks to BestBuy, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Monkey Hugs, Olums, Pella Windows and Doors, Filbin Paint, Anthony Fiori, SensaCalm, and Raymour and Flanigan for their support of A Room to Heal.
