Creating Healing Environments for Children
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to create healing environments for children affected by serious medical conditions within our local communities.
We design healing spaces for children where they can feel safe and supported during their journey. We work closely with families, healthcare providers, and community members to bring healing spaces to life. Join us in our mission to make a difference in the lives of children and families in need.

ABOUT US

Laurie Abess

Linda Salomons
A Room to Heal is the “brainchild’ of two local mothers, Laurie Abess and Linda Salomons, who wanted to make a difference in the Binghamton, NY area. Both women felt passionate about the need for children, who are affected by serious medical challenges, to have a calming, peaceful, and uplifting environment in order to heal. Their passion led them to create A Room to Heal.

A kick-off event was held in December 2005, a fundraising luncheon to share the idea that would become A Room to Heal. Over 40 people attended, and from that luncheon, a board was created. In 2006, A Room to Heal became incorporated and obtained its 501(c)3 non-profit status. As of 2023, we have completed over 130 healing spaces for children.

REFER A CHILD
We are currently accepting referrals for healing room projects, community room projects, and Comfort & Care Kits.
Children must be between the ages of 3-18, live within 50 minutes of Binghamton, NY, and have been diagnosed with a serious illness or medical condition. Their families should lack the resources needed to complete a healing room project on their own (resources include funds, time, energy, and know-how).
