Cooper's Room
November 26, 2013-May 6, 2018
"Super Cooper" gained his angel wings on May 6th, 2018 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Cooper was a remarkable boy with a magnetic smile, resounding laugh and a spirit that touched people's souls. His life's purpose was to make people happy. His family started the organization “Super Cooper Saves the Day” in honor and memory of sweet Cooper. They spread happiness in Cooper's memory and aide those impacted by childhood cancer and other hardships in and around the Binghamton, NY area.
Cooper was a loveable, energetic little boy. He was born with Down Syndrome and in November 2016 he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Although his treatment included multiple blood transfusions and chemotherapy at Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse, Cooper was full of life and energy, living up to his nickname, “Super Cooper.”
Cooper’s Crew of community supporters rallied behind this brave little boy by organizing fundraisers, sending in meals for the family, creating and selling “Super Cooper” t-shirts and so much more. Upon hearing Cooper’s story, local artist Russ Richardson offered to write and illustrate a special book called “Cooper Saves the Day,” that can be purchased on Amazon. Proceeds go to the Busch family.
Cooper lived with his parents, Tara and Steve, his big brother Cole, and his little sister Hope. He loved swimming, cars, trucks and motorcycles, books and superheroes (like himself!).
Although Cooper had his own room, his parents decided it would be nice for him to share a room with his older brother, building on an already special bond between the two. A Room to Heal Project Managers Linda and Lauren Snyder, and a team of volunteers worked to create a red, white and blue room with a “Superheroes” theme, complete with a superhero costume dress-up area. Bunk beds with an added trundle bed provide extra sleeping space for Mom, Dad or sleepover friends.
Cooper’s room reveal came on the heels of his “Make-A-Wish” trip, with the entire family returning home from Walt Disney World the night before the reveal.
