Rhys' Room
Rhys is a 5 year old boy who lives in Owego with his mom, stepdad, and sister. He has a number of diagnoses affecting his spine and brain including Klippel-feil syndrome, hydrocephalus, and tethered chord syndrome. None of these have held him back, however. He is an energetic, friendly child with a passion for Legos. Rhys also loves large cats (especially lions and tigers) superheroes, the TV show Wild Kratts, and videogames.
The room volunteers decided to include all of Rhys' favorite things in his new bedroom. The room is safari themed and features large lion and tiger stuffed animals and decor. It has a tented hideaway with a TV, PlayStation, and Rhys' favorite games and movies under his raised bed. The room has a Lego table filled with new Lego sets that will keep Rhys busy for quite some time along with other superhero and Wild Kratts decor and toys. A tiger and lion were also both adopted from the World Wildlife Fund in Rhys' name.
A Room to Heal would like to thank Ahwaga Paint and Floor Covering for donating paint, carpet, and carpet installation, Yarn N' More for creating the tent and curtain, and Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park for donating park tickets for Rhys' family. The room remodel was led by Loreta Paniccia and Lisa LaBarre. Other volunteers include Joe Johnson, Patrick Hollenbeck, Chase Westbrook, Aurora Hollenbeck, and Monica Hollenbeck.
