Hunter, Kingston, and Nash's Rooms

Hunter, Kingston, and Nash are brothers. All three boys have been diagnosed with Hunter’s Syndrome (also known as MPS-2), a genetic disease of missing enzymes. Unfortunately this syndrome causes developmental delays, distinct facial features, respiratory issues and a shortened lifespan. Hunter is 5, Kingston is 4, and Nash is 2 years old.

A Room to Heal project coordinators Linda Salomons and Cindy Rotella were very excited to help these boys and their mother by creating healing and comfortable spaces in the boys’ two bedrooms. When initially assessing their environment, volunteers determined that the bedrooms did not fit the needs of these growing and active boys; there was not much storage space and the furniture needed to be replaced. A Room to Heal provided the boys with comfortable and supportive “big boy beds,” as well as painting and decorating their rooms in the Disney Cars theme. They also provided storage space to better serve the needs of their busy mother.

All three boys are extremely lovable, playful, and very busy, but yet have their own unique personalities and needs. A Room to Heal volunteers purchased adaptive and sensory items and toys that can be used when they are visited by their therapy teachers. All purchases were paid for by donated funds from individuals and businesses in the community. A few unique items for the boys include a cuddle swing, weighted blankets, a Magic Hands Heat Sensitive Wall Panel, Wilbur the Bead Maze Wall Panel Toy, and a soft-touch floor sitter which will bring the boys comfort in times of stress or when they need to be in a calm place. The boys also love playing with cars, watching sports, reading with their mother and grandmother and watching videos like Disney’s CARS and Baby Einstein.
