Liza's Room

Liza is a typical 12-year-old who loves makeup, spending time with her friends, and watching YouTube videos. In January 2025, she was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the maxilla—an extremely rare cancer in children. The months that followed were filled with doctor visits, surgery, and more than 30 rounds of radiation.

In May, we met with Liza and her family to learn how we could help. Liza showed us her room and shared that she wanted a space that felt more grown-up and calming. She dreamed of having a big makeup vanity and a TV, and told us she loves a modern coastal aesthetic—lots of whites and creams with soft touches of pale blue.

After months of planning and collaboration with her family, we revealed her new room this past Friday. The walls were painted a soothing pale blue, her twin bed was replaced with a larger bed and new bedding, and she received the sleek modern dresser she had hoped for. We added a beautiful vanity with plenty of storage and an LED-lit mirror, a freestanding jewelry armoire, and a Smart TV. We also created a seating area and added a bench at the foot of the bed to give her space to relax and spend time with friends.

With reconstructive surgery on the horizon, Liza now has a space where she can rest, recover, and simply be a kid again.

Thank you to Joshua Matsch of Finest Finish Painting and Frank Stento for painting Liza’s room. Thank you to Credit Acceptance for a generous donation that was used to complete this project. Thank you to Lacey Jackson, Jennifer Krause, Mike Krause, and to Liza’s family and friends for providing food and working so hard on a very hot day!
