Lydia's Room

Meet Lydia, she is 15 years old, incredibly talented, and currently in remission from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She sings, acts, plays multiple instruments, and she also loves to craft, crochet, and sew.
Like many teenagers, her room was filled with all the things that make it hers: collections, books, makeup, posters, and mementos. With a smaller space, we needed smart storage, without losing any personality.
Project Lead Jordan Mullins had the perfect solution, take advantage of her tall ceilings. A shelf was added around the perimeter near the ceiling to showcase Lydia’s collection. Jordan framed her music and show posters because they are important and should be showcased. Cherry blossom and wisteria details accent the back of the shelves, the blades of the ceiling fan, and are sprinkled throughout the space. A super cool, multi-tier round bookshelf on casters was added (so much book space!). Instrument hangers and hat hangers help free up floor space. Purple velvet curtains were hung on a ceiling track, Lydia can close them to hide her shelves or pull them shut and pretend she’s on stage. A new vanity for makeup and a desk for homework complete the space.
The result? A room that feels bigger, brighter, and perfectly Lydia.
A couple of bonus projects were completed downstairs, a new craft space and wall storage for guitars and musical instruments were added.
Thank you to Jordan Mullins for leading the project and volunteers Kathy Macri, Gayle Landry, Maija Cantori, and Joseph Mullins for bringing it to life!
