Maverick's Room

Maverick is an energetic, happy 3 year-old. He was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor where his optic nerves cross and underwent 15 months of chemotherapy treatments in hopes to preserve his vision and stabilize the tumor. Thankfully the doctors believe the tumor is benign, but Maverick still faces the challenge of more chemotherapy in the future.

Maverick received a wish trip from Make-a-Wish, they sent his family to Disney World for a week! He loves animals, and was so excited to go on a safari at Animal Kingdom. While they were gone, a team from A Room to Heal was busy transforming his bedroom into an Animal Adventure-themed healing space, inspired by one of his favorite places. He came home to a canopy bed that looks like a tent, new carpet, a huge stuffed giraffe, and more! This new space will allow Maverick to feel secure, comfortable, and supported. May is also Brain Tumor Awareness Month, so the timing for his project was perfect.

Thank you to National Floor Center for donating materials and labor to install Maverick’s new carpet, Brushes Over Broome for painting his room, Steven’s Paint and Blinds for donating paint, Linda Snyder for leading the project, and all of the volunteers who worked hard to give Maverick a healing space.
