Michael's Room

January 15, 1992 – August 6, 2015
Michael was an amazing writer, he wrote, “one day, the emotions that I face will no longer be there, the tough times will all disappear, and the invisible barriers will forever be invisible.” Michael had a strong faith and looked forward to entering the gates of heaven to receive his freedom!
We were blessed to have been touched by such a beautiful soul.
Michael, an avid Mets fan and new uncle to niece Lillian, is a 22 year old with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy who had once served as the Muscular Dystrophy Goodwill Ambassador.
Michael, a Presidential Scholar and graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Technologies program from SUNY Broome, was fully involved in the whole room design. Michael articulated his vision with multiple designs he created for an industrial style room complete with a pitched open ceiling, refurbished wood walls and shelving, and remote controlled lighting and fan.
All the following craftsmen and artisans, led by Pete Walsh, donated all of their time on the room redesign: Walsh & Sons, Upstate Spray Foam, Murphy’s Steel Fabrication, and Wade Electric. New windows were donated by Norandex. An industrial art piece was created by local metal artist, Steve Reid.
The Fancher family, in honor of Dave Fancher, donated funds for this room redesign.
