RISE Family Room

RISE Family Room

The Rise shelter (formerly known as the SOS shelter) works with families who have been affected by domestic violence. They have served our community since 1979 and were one of the first domestic violence shelters in New York State.

The shelter accepts survivors and their children and is committed to ensuring their services are accessible and inclusive to all. Each family has their own private bedroom and bathroom. Residents share communal kitchen and dining areas, living room, and recreational space.

A Room to Heal’s final project of 2023 was to create a healing space in their recreational area. The space was functional, but we wanted it to be brighter and calming. The walls were painted a beautiful seafoam green, easy to clean furniture was added, and a gorgeous area rug now grounds the space. There is a larger table for families to gather and play games on, art was added to the walls, and cheery pillows adorn the couch to make the space cozy. The updated space is inviting and welcoming for families and gives them a place to relax, unwind, and heal from the trauma they have experienced. We love it when we can partner with other local organizations and bring healing spaces to the children and families they serve.
